چکیده

This paper presents a review of the main dead-time compensators (DTC) described in literature. The paper analyses the basic Smith predictor (SP) showing its advantages and drawbacks. DTC structures designed to improve closed-loop characteristics and to control unstable systems are described. The paper concludes with some recommendations for designing dead-time compensator controllers. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Delay Margin of Dead-time Compensators

Dead-time compensators (DTCs) are frequently regarded as being excessively sensitive to uncertainty in the loop delay. This claim, however, is based mostly on empirical studies rather than on any rigorous analysis. In particular, despite existing literature on the calculation of the delay margin, μd, there appears to be no study of the underlying reasons of such a sensitivity. In this paper we ...

Pso-based Simultaneous Tuning Method for Pid Controllers and Dead-zone Compensators and Its Application to Ultrasonic Motors

This paper proposes a simultaneous tuning method for PID controllers and dead-zone compensators based on particle swarm optimization. By the proposed algorithm, PID gains and dead-zone parameters are tuned online to minimize the error between the control output and the reference input. However, since ultrasonic motors intrinsically have a varying dead-zone in the control input associated with a...

Dead-time compensators: performance and robustness issues

This paper will compare a number of PID and predictive controller strategies to compensate processes modelled in first order lag plus time delay (FOLPD) form. The performance and robustness of the resulting compensated systems are evaluated analytically (where appropriate) and in simulation.

Robust Smith Predictor Design for Time-Delay Systems with H∞ Performance

A new method for robust fixed-order H∞ controller design for uncertain time-delay systems is presented. It is shown that the H∞ robust performance condition can be represented by a set of convex constraints with respect to the parameters of a linearly parameterized primary controller in the Smith predictor structure. Systems with uncertain dead-time and with multimodel and frequency-domain unce...

Improved Flux and Torque Estimators of a Direct Torque Controlled Interior PM Machine with Compensations for Dead-time Effects and Forward Voltage Drops

The performance of direct torque controlled (DTC) interior permanent magnet (IPM) machines is poor at low speeds due to a few reasons, namely limited accuracy of stator voltage acquisition and the presence of offset and drift components in the acquired signals. Due to factors such as forward voltage drop across switching devices in the three phase inverter and dead-time of the devices, the volt...
